We had our third acclimation climb this morning, up a knoll a little way off from the lodge we were staying at. Along the way, we were treated to a view of Cho Oyu and Everest up close, less than 40km away! The weather this morning was perfect and without a cloud in the sky or a (much-needed) breath of wind. Even the summit of Everest was missing it’s famous summit plume.
Climbing up to an altitude of 4578m was not a walk in the park, but we managed in about less than 2 hours in good shape.
After lunch, we took a well-deserved break by having a good soak in a natural hot spring about 10 minutes’ drive away from our lodge!
The team will be moving off to Cho Oyu base camp tomorrow and sleep will definitely not come easy for all of us tonight as we’re all terribly excited at being able to finally reach base camp, which is the actual “start” of the climb that we’ve all be training so hard for!
Look out for our next update from Cho Oyu!
The Singapore Women’s Everest Team formed in 2004 and aimed to send the first team of Singaporean women to the world’s highest peak. Following a rigorous 5 year training schedule, we successfully reached the summit of Mt. Everest in May 2009, placing 5 Singapore women on the top of the world.
