Cho Oyu – the final training peak before Everest
The objectives of the expedition are to:
1. Increase female participation in the Singapore mountaineering scene
2. Provide a platform for like-minded young climbers to realise their dreams
3. Motivate individuals to develop themselves to their fullest potential
In spirit, this expedition extends beyond mountaineering. SWET comprises individuals from very diverse backgrounds and experiences, bound by a common aim to challenge our personal assumptions and self-imposed boundaries. Through our expedition, SWET provides a platform for our members to attempt the seemingly-impossible, and we hope to inspire others to do likewise.
Everest, symbolically, embodies values of passionate pursuit, resilience, tenacity, goal dedication and a sense of enterprising adventure. SWET encapsulates our firm belief that passion and conviction can bring dreams into reality.
The Singapore Women’s Everest Team formed in 2004 and aimed to send the first team of Singaporean women to the world’s highest peak. Following a rigorous 5 year training schedule, we successfully reached the summit of Mt. Everest in May 2009, placing 5 Singapore women on the top of the world.
