The Final Peak Before Everest
The Singapore Women’s Everest Team climbed Mt Cho Oyu in 2007 as a training peak and a “full dress rehearsal to climb Mt Everest”.
At 8,201m, Cho Oyu is the 6th highest mountain in the world and is considered fairly accessible because the ascent to the summit plateau is short and direct. We planned Cho Oyu because the altitude we would experience near the summit would put us in the Death zone (above 8,000m above sea level), and from there, we would be able to get an idea of how our bodies respond to the extreme altitude, and from there, better prepare ourselves for the Everest climb.
The Cho Oyu expedition was a huge success, and here, we give you a glimpse into the journey we undertook on the slopes of Cho Oyu through our expedition dispatches from the Cho Oyu base camp.”
